Brian Lang, former chief executive and deputy chairman of the British Library, has returned to his native Scotland as principal of St Andrews University. Earlier this week, he was musing on differences north and south of the border. His girlfriend, who was catching a flight from Dundee Airport, asked where she could get a coffee. The coffee machine was broken so an airport employee made her a cup. Very different, Dr Lang said, from Heathrow's terminal one.
