On the move

Ed Corrigan , former head of the department of mathematical sciences at York University, has been appointed principal of Collingwood College at Durham University and professor of mathematics. He takes up his new post on January 1, 2008.

Essex University has appointed Bill Gore , currently executive chairman of WTG Holdings Ltd and KPC Investment LLP, as chair of council.

Several new members of staff have joined the university's Centre for Computational Finance and Economic Agents: Wing Lon Ng , expert in financial econometrics - lecturer; Steven Simon , whose research focuses on equity risk and credit risk - lecturer; Richard Olsen , of Olsen & Associates (electronic market makers for foreign exchange) - visiting professor; Jin Zhang has joined as a research fellow as part of the EU Marie Curie COMISEF grant; Rachel Blass , formerly at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, has been appointed professor of psychoanalysis and director of the centre's professional doctorate programme.

Steve Hodgson has been appointed dean of Northumbria University's School of the Built Environment. Mr Hodgson, who was acting dean, is a former building services consulting engineer.
