University of the Arts London has appointed Will Bridge as its first ever deputy rector. Dr Bridge is the current head of London College of Communication, one of University of the Arts London's six constituent colleges. He will take up the post from this month.

Stephen Smith , who has 15 years' experience in palliative care, has been appointed lead nurse in the Napier University-NHS Lothian leadership in compassionate care project.

Margaret C Smith , director of Nursing for Glasgow/Clyde Acute Services, has been appointed dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Dundee University. She takes up the post at the end of November.

Photopharmica Limited, a Leeds University spin-out company, has appointed Sam Williams , chief executive officer of Modern Biosciences, and Ian Wilding, MBS's chief scientific officer, as non-executive directors.

Kate Barker , the new chair of governors at Anglia Ruskin University, is a current member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, not a former member as reported last month.
