Neil Buxton, vice chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire, was a little puzzled at the deficiencies of a letter addressed to him as "Director, University of Lancaster, Hatfield, Hertfordshire". Did the sender have an appalling geographical education or were they just unable to head a letter properly? He will be putting this question to the sender: the Office for Standards in Education.
