Alumni to be proud of No 54 and 55 are those fine upstanding exemplars of the hereditary principle, milords the seventh marquesses of Bristol and Bath (what is it about these places in the West Country?). Frederick William John Angus Hervey, he of Bristol, is developing a career that it would be a positive kindness to describe as chequered by selling off the family baubles in the shape of lordships of the manor. He did his academic time at the University of Neuchatel while Alexander George Thynne, Marquess of Bath - he of the lions, the "wifelets" and the recent brush with the law - attended Christ Church, Oxford.
