Nobel pursuit

December 19, 2003

Your help is needed in tracing almost 1,000 winners of the 1993 Ig Nobel prize for literature. Cardiologists E. Topol, R. Califf, F. Van de Werf, P.W. Armstrong and 972 co-authors were awarded the prize for publishing a research paper which had 100 times as many authors as pages ("An International Randomized Trial Comparing Four Thrombolytic Strategies for Acute Myocardial Infarction", The New England Journal of Medicine , vol. 329, no. 10).

The Ig Nobel Board of Governors, recently alerted to the possibility that many of the authors could be unaware of their success, has been preparing special certificates for the winners. Each individual must supply documentary evidence that she or he is a co-author and a left thumb print. The address is: "I Am One of 976 Co-Authors", c/o Annals of Improbable Research, PO Box 380853, Cambridge, MA 02238, US.
