New unis take hi-tech lead

Former polytechnics are often outflanking their old university counterparts as a new subject-based "hidden binary structure" emerges, a British Council conference on employability will hear today. John Brennan, of the OU's centre for higher education research, said new universities dominated in art and design, and computer sciences.
