Network futures

UKERNA has released the results of a study by John Dyer into the future of the academic network architecture, to encourage comment (www.ja.net/ documents/net_arch.html). The document outlines the need for a single national body to coordinate developments in the backbone service, a growing need for broader bandwidth with direct access to fibre, the greater role played by regional and metropolitan area networks, and stronger collaboration with North America and continental Europe.
