Nerc grants widen

The Natural Environment Research Council is to allow postdoctoral research assistants to apply for grants from July. Assistants who already have funding from elsewhere can apply to Nerc without needing to be tenured members of staff.

David Brown, Nerc director of science programmes, said: "As long as they can show us proof that their salary needs are being met elsewhere, they can come in as principal investigator."
