The Diary has received a new entry for the most painfully contrived acronym competition. The American space agency Nasa has announced plans to launch a Mercury orbiter called MESSENGER in March 2004. In case you were wondering, MESSENGER stands for MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment GEochemistry and Ranging.
