­ Draft Council conclusions

1. The Commission transmitted to the Council, on 14 May 2004, its communication entitled "Towards a European strategy for nanotechnology"1 in which it launched a debate on the subject and suggested actions for an integrated approach to maintain and strengthen European research and development in nanosciences and nanotechnologies. 2. As a response to the Commission communication, the Committee, at its meeting on 17 September 2004, reached agreement on draft Council conclusions as set out in the annex to the present note. 3. It is suggested that the Council, following a public debate on nanotechnology2, should adopt these conclusions at its meeting on 24 September 2004.
