Most FE pleases Ofsted

Most further education is satisfactory or better, although nearly one in ten colleges that has been inspected is "inadequate", according to Ofsted's annual report for 2002-03, which was published this week. There is no evidence of an overall rise in quality, but the results of reinspections suggest that colleges have the capacity to address weaknesses, the report says. The most vulnerable learners are the least well catered for, with the teaching of literacy and numeracy often unsatisfactory.
