There has been a rise of almost 6 per cent in the number of over-21s accepted on to undergraduate courses compared with last year. Figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service show the greatest increase in the 21-to-24 age bracket, with 20 per cent more Scottish and 13 per cent more Northern Irish applicants.
