Mixed loyalties

Alumnus to be proud of No 71 is the newest recruit to the Liberal Democrat Party in the House of Commons, Peter Thurnham. Mr Thurnham's feat of representing two different parties in the same Parliament may not be as rare as it once was.

But he might reasonably claim that he got the idea from his own education rather than from Emma Nicholson or Alan Howarth, as he managed in rapid succession to attend the splendidly mixed bag of Peterhouse, Cambridge, Cranfield and Harvard.
