Education secretary Estelle Morris this week conceded that the plethora of hardship funds, childcare grants and funds-for-students-called-Grant has become unmanageable.
In her first higher education speech since becoming education secretary, she told an audience at London Guildhall University: "I want to simplify the system of student support, especially hardship funds. You need a degree just to know how to access the different types of support."
