Plans to create the largest university in Wales and one of the biggest in the UK have taken a step forward. The governing boards of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales Institute Cardiff have agreed to pursue merger negotiations actively. If the merger goes ahead as planned in August 2004, it would create a university with more than 30,000 students.
