Textile designer Asha Peta Thompson of Brunel University was shortlisted for the female inventor of the year award for her fabric that incorporates electronic circuits. It can be developed to enable a television to be operated at the press of a cushion. The winner of the Patent Office-sponsored event was Diana Hodgins of Hertfordshire University, who designed a solid-state gyroscope
