Ireland has the highest proportion of mathematics, science and technology graduates in the European Union, according to the EU statistical agency Eurostat in Luxembourg.
In 2001, Ireland had 23.2 graduates per 1,000 population aged 20 to 29, France was second at 19.7 per cent, and Britain third at 19.5 per cent.
