An acclaimed historian is to deliver a lecture on the "greatness and limitations of the West" in tribute to a former director of the London School of Economics. Heinrich August Winkler, who until 2007 was chair in modern history at Humboldt University in Berlin, will deliver the lecture on 7 October. It is being held to mark the academic life of Ralf Dahrendorf, one of Europe's pre-eminent sociologists in the postwar period and director of the LSE from 1974 to 1984, who died in June.
