London Metropolitan University - Guns and gangs link debunked

Rising gun crime is not a result of the growth of gang culture in the UK, a study led by London Metropolitan University's Simon Hallsworth says. Mr Hallsworth, principal lecturer in the department of applied social science, concludes that the significance of gangs in the rise in gun use had been exaggerated. The paper, published in the journal Criminology and Criminal Justice, states that gun users can be split into two distinct groups - experienced professional criminals protecting their "business interests" and younger, vulnerable users whose motives are less predictable.
