Rosie Sage has been appointed professor of communication in education; previously she was director of studies in the Centre for Raising Educational Achievement at the University of Leicester.

Michael Ziessler joins as professor of cognitive psychology and research coordinator of the psychology department from Humboldt University in Berlin.

Roger Brown has joined as professor and co-director of the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development. He was previously vice-chancellor of Southampton Solent University, chief executive of the Higher Education Quality Council, chief executive of the Committee of Directors of Polytechnics and secretary of the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council.

Bart McGettrick has been appointed professor and associate dean of education.
