Research degree-awarding powers have been handed to Liverpool Hope University. Previously its research degrees had been awarded through the University of Liverpool. In a recommendation to the Privy Council, the Quality Assurance Agency said Liverpool Hope has "a strong commitment to developing a research culture that is both traditional ... and realistic, given its current state of development". Gerald Pillay, the vice-chancellor, said that research-degree study would start immediately.
