Gourmets for whom a meal is only a meal if served on a bed of rocket should spare a thought for scientists who are forfeiting beds on their behalf. A research team from Southampton University is camping out in a field of salad crops and harvesting samples of rocket every four hours as part of a three-year project to improve the way salad leaves withstand washing and packing.
