The row over Oxford University's refusal to offer a place to state-school pupil Laura Spence generated reams of unfavourable publicity. But it seems they were right. "I don't feel that being from the North or a comprehensive mattered in my case," Ms Spence said this week. "Maybe I could have prepared better."
