£28m PPP builds two FE colleges in NI
Sean Farren, Northern Ireland’s minister for employment and learning, has launched a £28 million public-private partnership for new buildings for further education colleges in Dungannon and Omagh. This is the first time two colleges will be built simultaneously under PPP.

Report urges personal skills grants
Universities should be given grants to develop the personal and interactive skills of students, according to a report by Industry in Education. It also recommends that careers services should aim to enhance non-academic skills.

Harry Potter’s sidekick Hermione Grainger is the real hero of the books, Oxford University academic Michele Fry has decided. In a research paper she argued Harry was powerless without Hermione’s feminine wiles. Her paper is to be published in the New Review of Children’s Literature and Librarianship.
