Intellectual property advisory committee launched
The government has set up an intellectual property advisory committee to provide long-term strategy advice on issues such as patents and copyright.

Bid to avoid water-supply crisis
Academics from around the world are meeting at Dundee University today in a bid to head off a looming crisis over international water supplies. More than 220 academics will discuss ways to avoid conflict now that about 300 major waterways are shared by more than one state.

£1.35 billion boost for school sixth forms
The Learning and Skills Council will distribute £1.35 billion to school sixth forms next year and will offer a “real-terms guarantee” to protect future funding. Education secretary Estelle Morris said that school sixth forms had a crucial role in widening post-16 learning opportunities.
