Graduates command higher salaries
Starting salaries for graduates are expected to rise to about £18,600 next year. A report from the Association of Graduate Recruiters predicts a 3.3 per cent increase in starting salaries, based on a survey of 196 employers. The highest increases - of up to 10 per cent - are predicted in the legal sector.

Scotland increases FE support
Wendy Alexander, Scotland’s minister for enterprise and lifelong learning, today announced £3 million to improve further education teaching facilities. “This will be used by colleges on projects such as upgrading vehicle workshops or salons for hairdressing students,” she said.

Researchers destroy leukaemia cells
Researchers at Imperial College school of medicine and Hammersmith Hospital have found an immune cell that can seek and destroy leukaemia cells. Hans Stauss, reader in tumour immunology at Imperial, said: “The principle can be applied to most forms of leukaemia and could signal a step forward in how we treat the disease.”
