Chemicals found in farmed salmon
Research by a Surrey University toxicologist has found worrying levels of potentially dangerous chemicals in farmed salmon. Miriam Jacobs traced the contamination by polychlorinated biphenyls to concentrated feed that includes fish offal and offcuts.
Vaccine for cancer trialled
Scientists at Southampton University are spearheading trials of a genetically engineered vaccine for cancer. Patients with low grade cancer of the lymphatic system are taking part in the tests, at Christie Hospital, Manchester and in Southampton.
How to spot hoax emails
Internet users have been issued with guidelines on how to spot hoax emails. Gavin Sinclair, senior information technology officer in postgraduate medicine at Glasgow University, says tell-tale signs are that hoaxes are never specific about dates and request that the reader should pass on the email to everyone in their address book.
