£25 million more for Scots research
Wendy Alexander, Scotland’s minister for enterprise, transport and lifelong learning, today announced a £25 million cash boost for researchers in the wake of the research assessment exercise. The two-year package is, pro rata, nearly three times the equivalent of the £30 million extra awarded to English institutions following last year’s RAE.

Hodge announces date for student funding statement
Higher education minister Margaret Hodge is due to outline the government’s views on student funding and the structure of higher education at a conference next month. Ms Hodge will address the Admissions to Higher Education conference, at York University, which runs from March 18 to 20.

Strikers occupy South Korean universities
Eight thousand public sector workers have occupied two South Korean universities on the second day of a strike that has been declared illegal by the government. The universities are surrounded by thousands of riot police.
