LSE claims Mittal broke scholarship deal pledge
The London School of Economics has claimed that billionaire Lakshmi Mittal pulled the plug on a pledged £200,000 scholarship deal after his daughter was not accepted for an undergraduate course in 1999. A spokesman for the tycoon, who is currently embroiled in a row over donations to the Labour Party, denied there had been any attempt to lobby for a place for Vanisha Mittal.

European satellite to give Earth a health check
Science minister Lord Sainsbury has announced that the European Space Agency’s £1.4 billion earth observation satellite (Envisat) will be launched on 1st March from Kourou spaceport in French Guiana early next month. It will carry the widest range of environmental monitoring equipment yet, and will record changes in the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, vegetation and ice caps.
