Former Toronto drama professor Donald MacQuarrie faces jail in the United States after admitting an outbreak of air rage on a holiday flight. Professor MacQuarrie was on his way to Hawaii with his wife for a vacation marking his retirement from Toronto's Ryerson Polytechnic University.

Afghanistan defends destruction of artefacts
Afghan scholars, educationalists, experts on culture and other influential figures have expressed support for the destruction of statues of the Buddha. Gathered at Balkh University in northern Afghanistan, they argued that non-Islamic countries had no right to condemn the action.
