The world's first purpose-built Institute of Palliative Care has opened in south London. Costing £10 million, it is reported to be the only organisation in the world solely dedicated to research into end-of-life care and improvement of the services provided to dying patients. King's College London and the charity Cicely Saunders International joined forces to create the research and care institute. It brings together clinicians, educators and researchers in palliative care, alongside facilities for patients and carers. The institute is based at the college's Denmark Hill Campus, adjacent to King's College Hospital.
