Joint safety group means food moves up menu

As a step towards the promised independent Food Standards Agency, the Government this week established a Joint Food Safety and Standards Group.

It brings together Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Department of Health officials to work in food safety. Regulation of food and food standards were among the topics at a food safety conference in London this week. It was organised by the Transport and General Workers Union, 170,000 of whose members work in the food-processing industry.
