Brussels, 20 March 2002

Geel (BE): IRMM has performed measurements on 210Pb in dried lung tissue samples in collaboration with the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg, Germany. 210Pb is a daughter product of radon, and its measurement can indicate the level of exposure of lung tissue to radon gas. IRMM performed such low-level measurements using the special Hades underground laboratory (223 meters below ground level), where no interference from cosmic rays exists and where background radiation levels are extremely low.
