Invitation to bid for research and teaching posts: the fundamental properties of materials

Applications are invited for funds to support research and teaching posts in the interdisciplinary field of the science of materials. Within this broad field, the trustees are more specifically interested in supporting activity that: looks forward to materials of relevance to the science and technologies of the second and third decades of the century and beyond; investigates the as-yet unknown rather than pushes forward the boundaries of the known; and; is not currently well supported in the United Kingdom by other special programmes or initiatives by funding bodies.

The trustees intend to award a major grant of up to £2 million for a 5-10 year programme of activity, based on applications from UK universities or research centres, within specific guidelines which are available at www.leverhulme.org.uk/materials.html or by sending an SAE stamped for 60g to: Research & Teaching Posts (Materials Science), The Leverhulme Trust, 1 Pemberton Row, London EC4A 3BG.
