International benchmarking forum

June 12, 2006

Brussels, 09 Jun 2006

The International Benchmarking Forum will be held in Basel, Switzerland, on 21 and 22 June.

Based on the most recent regional benchmarking projects by BAK Basel Economics, this year's conference will focus on the contribution that BAK's data and research can make to the formulation of economic strategies within regions.

Research undertaken since 2005 allows us to focus on the following questions:

  • Which regions boast the best performing financial centres and which are the best places to live and to visit? What are their success formulas?

  • Which regions are performing best in research, development and production of advanced technology products in information, communication, health, energy, transportation and manufacturing? What are the factors behind this?

  • What is the quantitative impact over time of regional/metropolitan governance (policies) in the areas of research, development, education, regulation of markets, taxation and transportation on real GDP growth, gross value added of key sectors, productivity and employment?

Speakers from government, business and academia will present their view in the plenary sessions and in workshops. Forum participants will have the opportunity to discuss all topics in detail.
