The Health and Safety Executive plans to investigate Imperial College, London, over the use of a biological toxin in its research laboratories. Under health and safety rules, the college must inform the HSE when it wishes to work with biological toxins. But it is alleged that work started with a botulinum toxin before the HSE was notified.
The investigation centres on the department of biological sciences, where Oliver Dolly, professor of molecular neurobiology, conducts his research.
Imperial College this week refused to confirm or deny reports that Professor Dolly had been suspended in connection with the HSE investigation.
