Ispra (IT): A new scientific information service (SIS) on advanced alternative methods in biomedical sciences has been made available by the Validation of Biomedical Testing Methods unit of IHCP.
The new service aims to promote knowledge dissemination and it also wants to promote discussion through the use of an online questionnaire. The major subjects covered include
- neurotoxicity of chemicals and formulations,
- non-animal testing for hepatoxicity, percutaneous absorption and
- metabolism-mediated toxicity.
With this database the JRC is supporting Commission Services, national policy makers, the scientific community and other interest groups, like the animal welfare movement. The establishment of this service was outlined in the requirements of 1991 communication of the Commission to the Parliament and Council, SEC-91-1794.
