A £50 million virtual research centre focusing on low-carbon technologies and the impact of climate change is to be established as a joint initiative between a group of universities in Yorkshire and the regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward. The centre will combine expertise from the universities of Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York to help build a competitive, sustainable and carbon-efficient regional economy. Its first four pilot research projects will cover the regional economics of climate change, low-carbon supply chains, bio-renewables and carbon-capture technology.
