High hopes

One view likely to be less contentious than most at today's CVCP meeting is that higher education issues need a higher profile. As education and employment question time attained unusual levels of media attention last week thanks to Harriet Harman's not so local difficulty, hopes may have been raised that their concerns might get an airing.

No such luck. Of 36 questions tabled only one, from Labour's David Jamieson, had a higher education theme. And it concerned student loans rather than university finances. Nor was there time for it to be called .
