Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, has launched Focus on the Future, Heriot-Watt University's £10 million strategy to increase its academic staff by 50 per cent over ten years. The university has drawn up plans to boost particular areas of strength through interdisciplinary research and teaching. A £2 million first phase will include up to 25 key academic appointments.
