Government concern over university drop-out rates is highlighted by a study commissioned by the education department, writes Alan Thomson.
The study, Student Non-completion in Higher Education, will be based on a survey of people who fail to complete their courses. The aim is to identify the causes and to assess how dropping out affects people's prospects. The results should be available early next year.
