Golden 'hellos' are working

Teacher vacancies have fallen slightly, indicating that golden hellos in shortage subjects may be bolstering recruitment. Provisional government statistics released last week show that unfilled, advertised teaching job vacancies have fallen by 115, from 2,359 in January 1998, to 2,244 in January 1999.
