An international competition has been launched by the Glasgow School of Art to select a team of architects who will design a major structure opposite the institution's Mackintosh Building in the Garnethill area of the city. The competition will be managed by Malcolm Reading Consultants on behalf of the school, and the judging panel will be chaired by architect David Mackay. The new building will be part-funded by the Scottish Funding Council, which has committed £50 million to the development's first phase.
