Gillian Shephard speaks at the Further Education Development Agency conference

Education secretary Gillian Shephard also spoke at the conference, and outlined five challenges for further education in the future. It must: manage growth within available funding by increasing funding from non-public sources; boost student qualification achievement rates; provide opportunities for lifelong learning; increase responsiveness and flexibility and continue to widen access and participation; and ensure staff professionalism and continuing development.
