Mass genetic screening for common diseases, including diabetes, is only years away but the benefits compare poorly with simply encouraging healthy behaviour, Angus Clarke, senior lecturer in clinical genetics at the University of Wales College of Medicine, writes in tomorrow's British Medical Journal.
