"All over the world the town of Reading is known through its association with Oscar Wilde." Quite so, although it was undoubtedly an association Wilde would rather not have had.

Whether he would have appreciated his name being brandished for publicity purposes by the town's university has to be doubted - but we suspect he'd have liked Alan Sinfield's public lecture on "Oscar Wilde and the queer body" and would certainly have appreciated the quirk of fate that delivered the lecture announcement to The THES in the same post as a report on the deficiencies in prison education.
