Further boost to PhD stipends considered

The need to further increase stipends for PhDs students was expected to be discussed at a joint meeting of the heads of the research councils this week. Also likely to be discussed were changes to the Joint Infrastructure Fund competition, the results of the first round of which are expected next week. Members of the research councils meet again this week to address subjects ranging from collaboration with Europe to peer review and commercialisation of research.
