Funding fallout

Universities' share of public spending has been in relative decline compared with that of schools and early years education, according to MPs. The Education and Skills Select Committee reported last week that spending on schools has increased by 45 per cent in real terms since 1997, while spending on higher education increased by 10 per cent in real terms.
