* Andrew Neil, editor-in-chief of the Scotsman Group, has been elected rector of St Andrews University, narrowly defeating Tommy Sheridan, leader of the Scottish Socialist Party. On the day of the result, Mr Neil published an article in The Scotsman saying the solution to funding an expanded higher education system was a graduate tax.
